Danube Bridge Tulln

Railway bridge

In the course of the reactivation of the western loop line near Tulln the track axle distance was increased from 4.0 to 4.5 m. Due to this circumstance and the condition of the old Danube Bridge Tulln the existing railway bridge had to be pulled down and replaced by a new, modernstructure.

The structure of the existing railway bridge in Tulln had to be replaced in order to satisfy the current requirements of railway traffic (in particular regarding loads, speed, service life and noise protection).

The new structure consists of a steel framework with a reinforced concrete composite deck for economic reasons. Due to the increased traffic loads and higher loads in case of a ship impact the existing substructure had to be reinforced and reconstructed. The road bridge situated beside the railway structure was preserved.

Due to the structures nearby (in the town area of Tulln) a ballast-less track according to the system “Edilon” is used where low noise emission is reached thanks to the type of rail bearing.

„ It is exciting to see the bridge being built after planning. It makes me still proud today when I cross this bridge. “
