Camillus Hospice
Conversion works carried out during ongoing operations create eight new hospice beds at Seeböckgasse Nursing Hospital.
PROJECT OF THE MONTH 01/2026. On behalf of Haus der Barmherzigkeit, FCP implemented—based on the designs by KDA Klaus Duda Architektur—the conversion of part of an existing ward at Seeböckgasse Nursing Hospital in Vienna into a modern eight-bed hospice facility, which commenced operations at the end of December 2025.
On the first floor of the existing building, resident rooms were refurbished during ongoing operations, bathrooms were renewed, and an additional day room was created. With the Camillus Hospice, another key component for strengthening palliative care in Vienna has been realized, providing seriously ill people with a dignified and protected environment during the final phase of their lives.

Additional measures within the existing building
Beyond the actual hospice conversion, the project included further measures: On the second floor, a new terrace was constructed for an existing ward. This measure aims to improve both the quality of stay for residents and the working conditions for nursing staff.
Complex construction execution in a sensitive environment
A particular challenge was the execution of construction works while the facility remained fully operational. Access to the construction site on the first floor was provided via the sidewalk, as the existing stairwells had to remain fully functional as designated escape staircases for residents on the upper floors due to fire safety requirements. Accordingly, the demands on construction coordination, logistics, and scheduling were exceptionally high.
„ Building renovation while operations continue requires technical precision, consideration and sensitively coordinated solutions. “
Barbara Winter, Authorized Managing Partner at FCP
Within this project, FCP was responsible for both project management and structural engineering and also assumed the role of checking engineer in accordance with the Vienna Building Code (WBO). In this capacity, FCP supported the project from planning through to completion within a sensitive existing-building environment.
“Construction works within an existing building during ongoing operations in such a sensitive area require not only technical precision but also a high degree of consideration and coordination. Our goal was to develop functional and structural solutions that meet the needs of future hospice residents while fully accommodating the requirements of the ongoing nursing operations.” — Barbara Winter, Project Manager and Authorized Managing Partner at FCP.
With the new Camillus Hospice, the existing services at the Seeböckgasse site are meaningfully expanded, making a further contribution to high-quality healthcare and nursing infrastructure in Vienna.
